Getting started
Get your API keys
Access is approved per company. Sandbox keys work the moment you are approved; live keys need a funded balance.
Steps
- Apply for API access with your company details. We review applications within one business day.
- Create a Journey Stack portal account using the same email address you applied with.
- Once approved, open Developer API in the portal. Your sandbox balance is pre-loaded with play money.
- Create a sandbox key. It is shown once — copy it straight into your secret store.
- Build and test. When you are ready, top up your live balance and create a live key.
Key format
keys
js_test_1f3a9c2b8e7d4a6c5b0f9e2d # sandbox
js_live_7b2e0d9a4c1f8e3b6d5a0c7f # production- The prefix tells you the environment. The API derives the environment from the key, never from a parameter.
- Keys are stored hashed. Nobody at Journey Stack can read yours back to you — lose it and you create a new one.
- You can hold up to 10 active keys, so you can rotate without downtime.
- Revoking is instant: the next request with that key returns unauthorized.
Check the key works
bash
curl https://app.journeystack.co/api/public/v1/ping \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $JS_KEY"200 OK
{ "data": { "ok": true, "environment": "sandbox", "partner": "Acme Travel", "currency": "USD", "server_time": "2026-01-14T09:30:00.000Z" } }Treat keys as production credentials
A live key can spend your prepaid balance. Keep keys server-side, never in a mobile app or browser bundle, and rotate them when staff with access leave.
